
<p>Anthony “Toni” Trinca committed to continuing the 60-year tradition of the Baldwinsville Barbershop 13 years ago. Together with his business partner, Dave Olenych, Toni created a welcoming community that he calls a “Boys Club,” where men of all ages gossip, talk sports, and trade news.</p>


Anthony “Tony” Trinca, the owner of the Baldwinsville Barber Shop, followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a barber at 21. He brought his father’s barber chair with him when he moved to this location.

Dave Olenych, who used to be a construction worker, has been working at the Baldwinsville Barber Shop for the past 8 years. He, his fiancé, Gina Oleksak, and his stepdaughter, Mia Hertel-Olesak, live 20 minutes outside the town of Baldwinsville.

Xavier Lastra lays back as Dave meticulously lines up his beard. Xavier has been coming to the barbershop for the past six years, noting that it’s, “Not too far from home and these guys always do a good job.”

Tony puts the final touches on the “flat top” haircut he just completed. “I did not want to learn this haircut, but the old owner told me ‘You got no choice, gotta do ‘em’”.

Dave and Jim Deveraux, the last client of the day, share in laughter while discussing various pop culture topics. Jim is a resident of Baldwinsville and commutes to Syracuse University where he works with the Fire Safety Department.

Every morning, Dave lines up the different clippers and guards he uses during his haircuts.

For every haircut or beard trip, a new razor blade must be put on the handle. Luckily, Dave and Toni have only had a couple of accidents where they nicked themselves while changing the blade.

As he sat down in the chair, Daniel Yehoe let Dave know they he attempted to cut his own hair. “Ain’t nothing like getting a haircut from you, bud,” he said to Dave, following with the fact that he will not be attempting to cut his own hair again.

Toby, age seven, waited impatiently for his turn to get his haircut. During the cutting process, he couldn’t help but cringe at the itchy feeling on his back that the hair trimmings caused.

After its first introduction 62 years ago, the Baldwinsville Barber Shop’s legacy continues to live on through both Tony and Dave. As people line up in the mornings, before the shop doors have even been unlocked, they rest assured knowing they’re able to continue relying on the Barbershop for both their social and “haircut” needs.
